Philippine veterinary office implements animal health programs

With this fund, PVET officials said they have spent the fund through the purchased 12 sow which exceeded their annual target of 10 stocks, swine, cattle and carabao upgrading program, animal health project such as provision of vaccines such as hemosept, blackleg for carabao, cattle, goat and sheep, hog cholera for swine, new castles disease for poultry and rabies for dogs.

Aside from this, a total of 28,927 animals have been dewormed and 1,418 were examined on fecal analysis. 1,741 animals were treated while P46,350 collected from shipping permit fees were remitted to the provincial treasury.

For its swine upgrading project, 2 out of 3 targetted boars are being cared and maintained at the animal breeding center in barangay Magsaysay in this town. PVET also gave 317 artificial insemination where P29,700 exacted from the program were remitted to the provincial treasury. During its provincewide monitoring, 1,953 offsprings were produced as of September 2006 while .5 hectares of land is being maintained as forage area for 60 goats with P44,450 fund released for small ruminant upgrading program.
