Print This Page Piggeries struggle with feed costs, labour shortage
AUSTRALIA - The operator of Australia's biggest piggery believes more players will be forced out of the industry because of rising costs.Tong Park, near Dalby in southern Queensland, farms 73,000 pigs but is struggling with high feed grain prices, pig meat imports, low returns and labour shortages.
Manager Mike Kennedy says grain prices have almost doubled recently and the higher costs cannot be passed on.
"At the moment with the high grain prices caused by the drought it's very difficult for piggeries," he said.
