Croatian enterprise Žito starts with TOPIGS in-house breeding system
THE NETHERLANDS - The Croatian-based agricultural company Žito d.o.o. is to start producing sows based on the TOPIGS in-house nucleus system.
This means that all 900-sows of the nucleus farm of Žito will be used to produce TOPIGS-40 sows. These nucleus sows will also be used to maintain and improve the genetic basis of the breeding herd. Semen will be used to implement the genetic improvement of the TOPIGS breeding programme.
The agreement between Žito and TOPIGS also includes the training and education of Žito personnel by TOPIGS specialists.
Žito is an agricultural company and its head office is in Osijeck, Croatia. Žito is active in arable farming, feed stuff production, dairy production and pig production. Žito has a total of 8,500 sows.
TOPIGS is one of the three largest breeding organisations in the world. It is active in all of the leading pork-producing countries and is the market leader in several of them.
On a worldwide scale, TOPIGS produces and sells about 900,000 gilts per year. TOPIGS head office is in Vught, the Netherlands.
