US Pork Production at Record High for February

US - Commercial red meat production for the United States totaled 3.62 billion pounds in February, up 4 percent from the 3.49 billion pounds produced in February 2006, report the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) in their monthly Livestock Slaughter report.

Pork production totaled 1.64 billion pounds, down slightly from the previous year.

Hog kill totaled 8.12 million head, down slightly February 2006.

The average live weight was down 2 pounds from the previous year, at 269 pounds.

January to February 2007 commercial red meat production was 7.7 billion pounds, up 4 percent from 2006.

Accumulated beef production was up 6 percent from last year, veal was up 14 percent, pork was up 2 percent from last year, and lamb and mutton production was down 5 percent.

February 2006 contained 20 weekdays (including one holiday) and 4 Saturdays.
February 2007 contained 20 weekdays (including one holiday) and 4 Saturdays.
