Print This Page Charities to gain from London Marathon Runners
UK - Next Sunday's London Marathon will see Nigel Muirhead, 5M Publishing, and Matthew Curtis, ACMC, running in support of UK charities. Any donations great or small will be greatly welcomed!
Nigel Muirhead Having trained for over 6 months, Nigel Muirhead, a founder and shareholder of 5M Publishing, is aiming to break the 4 hour mark in Sunday's London marathon. Nigel's efforts are in aid of the stroke association, in memory of Dr. Mike Muirhead (father) who died from a stroke in January 2003. Mike was a world renowned veterinarian who, for over 30 years, specialised in pig practice and developed a reputation for his innovative and far-reaching approach to swine veterinary practice. Author of three books; Managing Pig Health and the Treatment of Disease, and pocket guides on Pig Diseases and Pig Infertility, he was instrumental in the setting up of 5M and driving it's subsequent growth until his death. Nigel has received pledges for over £3,500 to date and is hoping to increase this to well over £4000 before the starter's gun sounds on Sunday. |
Matthew Curtis Training hard for the Flora Marathon in London is 38-year-old Matthew Curtis who is hoping to raise £5,000 for the charity, Macmillan Cancer Support. Matthew, managing director of Beeford, North Yorkshire-based international pig breeding company, ACMC Ltd, is pounding the road and putting in 40-50 miles a week to “get up to speed” before the big day on 22nd April. A regular runner, and member of the Barracuda Triathlon Club, Beverley, he has completed triathlons and half-marathons but has never run a full marathon and is looking forward to the challenge and finishing the course. He says: “Most people’s lives have been affected by cancer in one way or another. Macmillan, which relies totally on voluntary donations, provides help and support to reduce the suffering of terminally-ill patients so is a very worthwhile cause.” |
