EU Prices being driven by lower numbers!
EU - This week, the market for European mature-pigs-for-slaughter is much better than it was last week. The number of pigs mature for slaughter was found to be reduced considerably. So, even with a day of slaughter missing last week, no backlog supply was observed. Such activity was found on the Dutch market in particular. After having delivered a weekly 50 000 pigs mature for slaughter to Germany previously, Dutch pig feeders had faced half the number only of late.
Such decrease in supply had the price pressure end in smoke on the pigs-mature-for-slaughter-market and caused the EU pig prices to recover swiftly. However, word has it that the meat business does not develop satisfactorily and so the Danish quotation does not escape unscathed this week; yet, the comparatively low number of live pigs on offer sets the tone again on the market. Therefore, the European price structure is being left a mark on by mostly unchanged quotations. A seasonal increase of prices, however, is heralded by slightly increasing pig prices reported about from France and Spain.
