Piggery farmers harmonise prices
SWAZILAND - In a bid to rationalise and harmonise livestock prices, stakeholders in the pig industry yesterday met to discuss a way forward in the matter. The meeting, held in Matsapha, was attended by producers, feed millers and processors as well as other stakeholders in the piggery industry. They addressed questions such as whether the costs of running the piggery business were justified, especially those related to pork production and slaughtering.
Director of Veterinary Services Dr. Robert Thwala, explaining the purpose of the meeting, said they were trying to come up with a solution to the pricing system, which urgently needed harmonising and rationalisation. He said the pricing issue had raised questions about the sustainability of the piggery industry.
He said they were looking forward to the day they formed a national livestock industry in the country, where everything would be harmonised.
