AUSTRALIA - Water access and environmental guidelines for buffer distances for piggeries are just two of the key discussion items for the 2007 SAFF Pork Industry annual meeting.Butch Moses, chairperson of the SAFF Commercial Pork Industry committee, said, “Growers need up to date information to be able to sustain their markets and drive their profitability.”
With the loss of one of only two abattoirs for pigs in South Australia Mr Moses says that all producers should come to the AGM to hear Michael Gilpin speak about the future of Primo in South Australia.
Mr Gilpin is Primo’s National Meat marketing manager.
The Primo abattoir at Port Wakefield was destroyed by fire in February 2007 leaving Big River at Murray Bridge as the only abattoir in South Australia able to service the pig industry.
“Every pig producer must hear what Primo has to say especially the smaller producers,” Mr Moses said.
