EU pig prices: Confidence returns!
EU - Pig prices are heralded to develop in a friendly way now, after they were found to stabilise across the European finished pig market last week.Quotations in France and Germany started up with a slight increase. Subsequently, prices in Austria, the Netherlands and Belgium were found to follow. Unchanged quotations, however, are found in Denmark and Spain. In Great Britain, quotations were reported to fall. Restrictions imposed on transport in connection with foot-and-mouth outbreaks had resulted in surplus production which now needs to be worked off.
Apart from slight reductions of supply, the market seems to cash in ever more on the positive export prospects. Danish Crown, for instance, reports about a break through in negotiations with China. So far, the Chinese had only been interested in receiving by-products from Denmark, such as offal, paws and ears. But now, say the Danes, the Chinese are also asking for high-quality parts such as shoulder and neck.
