Pork exporter still not fully accredited
PHILIPPINES - One of the two companies tapped to pioneer the country’s first attempt at exporting pork has failed to get permanent accreditation from the government because it still lacks some requirements, said a meat inspection official.Jose Ariel Billones, Region 12 director of the National Meat Inspection Service, said that Matutum Meat Packing Corp. (MMPC) has so far been granted conditional "AAA" accreditation.
But he expressed confidence that the firm will have its full accreditation soon because it has been “doing everything.”
The temporary accreditation, said Billones, is set to expire in November. Permanent accreditation will only be granted when MMPC submits the necessary requirements, among them are the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point system clearance and the establishment of a mini laboratory.
He stressed, though, that permanent accreditation is still subject to a yearly renewal.
MMPC, which is based in neighboring Polomolok town in South Cotabato, is now in the process of compliance so the firm’s operations will not go unhampered once the temporary accreditation expires in November, the meat official said. "They’re doing everything so they will not experience future glitches," he pointed out.
