Print This Page Smithfield Foods to increase pork production
CHICAGO - US meat giant Smithfield Foods has said it will increase pork production at its Sioux City, Iowa, plant. The pork produced will be destined for China.The plant will begin processing an additional 3,200 hogs a day next week and will add about 250 workers. The expaansion is to meet contract needs for the company's new and emerging business in China.
In August, the company announced a deal to sell 60 million lbs of pork to a Chinese trading company.
