Print This Page Deadline to reduce Melaka pig population extended to Oct 4
MALAYSIA - The Melaka government has set a new deadline of 4 October for pig breeders to reduce the swine population in Paya Mengkuang, Bukit Beruang, Man Lok and Londang near here.Masjid Tanah Member of Parliament Datuk Wira Abu Seman Yusop said this was because the target of bringing out 97,241 pigs from the areas involved by tomorrow could not be achieved.
"The rearers managed to bring out only 23,824 pigs from Sept 4 till yesterday," he told reporters here today.
The state government wants the pig population in the state to be reduced to 48,000 from about 148,000 following complaints of stench, unhygienic conditions and the pollution of water sources.
