A 'write' battle increase prices
UK - NPA is mounting a war-of-words in a bid to get retailers and consumers on side in supporting price increases at the farm gate. The association is providing members with the neccessary tools for correspondence and is urging members to put pen to paper and individually lobby supermarkets, wholesalers, the food service sector, Government and the press .
It says producers should write to anyone, and everyone, who they believe can influence retail decisions on the pig price. They should also take the opportunity to demonstrate why consumers must support the UK pig industry.
Letter templates have been prepared and are available from the NPA website. However, the association is encouraging producers to customise their despatches - with a tell it like it is; from the heart line of reasoning - using their own feelings and experiences.
A list of key editors from national newspapers is provided, as are details for supermarket chiefs and meat buyers, MPs, government officials and retail associations.
