Print This Page Strike at biggest pork processing plant
US - More than 500 workers at a huge North Carolina food processing plant were on strike Friday, Facing South reported.The Smithfield Foods employees were protesting "abuse and intimidation" after the company allegedly retaliated against workers who had spoken out about conditions at Smithfield.
Though workers took the job action on their own, the United Food and Commercial Workers -- of which many workers are members -- has decided to support the strike.
The Tarheel, N.C., facility is the runs the world's largest pork-processing plant.
