POLAND - Poland is expected to start exporting meat to Russia again following the approval of 29 meat producers by the Russian food safety agency, Rosselkhoznador. The move follows an agreement betwen the Rosselkhoznador chief Sergey Dankvert and the Polish Chief Veterinary officer Ewa Lech.
The agreement sees nine enterprises producing finished product, 16 producing slaughter pigs and four producing fattening pigs approved for export.
The standards of the companies proposed for export were inspected by the Russian officials earlier this month.
More than 65 Polish companies are expected to qualify to be on the exporter list and will ship up to 30,000 to 40,000 tonnes of meat to Russia in 2008.
In the middle of December, Poland and Russia signed an agreement lifting Moscow's ban on imports of Polish meat.
