EU Pig Prices: Upswing Observed
EU - Pig producers all over Europe see pig prices go up everywhere this week. Spain is out in front of everyone else, being closely followed by Germany.Pig producers across Europe are seeing an increase in finished pig prices. Spanish and German markets see the most movement, but the quotations in all other EU member countries are also up .Supplies are decreasing slightly, which is helping bolster prices.

Currently, prices in Hungary and Poland are far from approximating the German price level. It is a much more attractive issue to sell Dutch pigs mature for slaughter to the German market. On the other hand, the number of Danish pigs sold here has decreased considerably, because the Danish Crown abattoir - which had burnt down last year – is operating again. Veva in its capacity as the Belgian pig feeders’ organisation called out on a boycott last week with regard to deliveries, in order to voice everybody’s displeasure with the payment prices. As a result, there was insufficient quantities of pigs for slaughter.
Trend: All over Europe, the increased prices to be paid for pigs mature for slaughter prove to be accepted by the meat industry, even though there is complaint about the weak meat business. With the current quantities of pigs on supply, prices are expected to at least remain steady or tend to be friendly.
