Print This Page Reduced Milk Content Cuts Weaner Feed Costs
UK - In a bid to help UK pig producers cope with the continued economic down, a new range of lower-cost starter feeds, based on the latest protein and energy sources, have been launched.Produced by piglet nutrition specialist Primary Diets, the new feeds are the product of extensive research and development work in conjunction with experts at the University of Leeds. Highly nutritious, they will meet the specific need of newly weaned and nursery pigs, yet their formulations have a reduced reliance on costly milk products.
Close Interactions
The Topspec range has been tested in commercial farm situations with very positive results. The company says that the trials confirm the close interaction between farm environment, piglet health and product quality."I am confident that a large number of pig units will be able to switch to the lower-cost range and exploit it fully to achieve highly cost-effective benefits,"said Primary Diets' Paul Toplis.
"It is important that producers challenge the feed products they use on farm to ensure that the diets do meet the needs of their units - from maximum performance to best cost per pig,"he added.
Primary Diets, a division of the Associated British Nutrition (ABN) group, says the emergence of these diets is well timed. Many pig producers are struggling to cope with the ever-rising feed costs that have been a consequence of soaring raw material prices.
However, in spite of the enormous difficulties facing the UK pig market, the company has maintained its substantial R&D commitment. It recognises the need to develop new products through scientific innovation, with sound technical support to ensure their full value is extracted at farm level.
