Dutch Sow Unit with Nedap ESF Opens its Doors
NETHERLANDS - A new 1000 sow pig farm in the Netherlands equipped by the Dutch based company Nedap is to open its doors to the public this weekend.
The Smeenk family expanded their farm with two new buildings, containing gestating, suckling and empty sows.
On a weekly basis, groups of 40 to 45 sows are formed into a group to spend their full gestation together.
A total of 16 pens with one Nedap feed station each provides enough capacity to set the sows to the feed station directly after the insemination period.
In this way, sows can benefit from the individual feed supply throughout the gestation.
An additional feed station has been placed at the facility to raise gilts, so that they can get accustomed to the Nedap ESF unit before being included in the production cycle.
The Smeenk farm at Wittenbroeksweg 13, 7448PS Haarle, The Netherlands will open its doors to the public on Saturday 30 August from 10am to 4pm.
During the day several companies involved in the project will be present to demonstrate their equipment.
