Print This Page Meat Processing Jobs Safe at the Moment
AUSTRALIA - A Kingaroy meat processor in southern Queensland will continue operating, despite its owner going into voluntary administration.Hans Continental Smallgoods appointed KordaMentha as administrators on Friday. The company has been struggling to meet high feed costs and more competitors in the pork industry.
ABC reports that two months ago, Hans pulled out of a deal to sell the Swickers factory at Kingaroy.
KordaMentha says the South Burnett factory and other processing plants in Brisbane and Sydney will continue operating while a buyer for Hans is found.
The State Government has met company management.
The administrators says Industry Minister Desley Boyle has been assured the jobs of 1,400 workers are safe for now and that the Government is ready to help if workers lose their jobs.
