Document for Pigmeat Recall Compensation
IRELAND - The Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Brendan Smith TD, has published a detailed scheme document setting out the terms and conditions governing the payment of compensation in respect of pigmeat recalled from the market following the recent incident of feeding stuff contamination. The scheme document defines the eligibility of product for compensation and sets out clear guidelines in terms of what is expected from applicants under this scheme. All such product will be disposed of by rendering. The scheme document also describes the controls which are being applied on the ground where product is being dispatched for rendering.
The Minister said “The publication of this scheme document follows agreement with the EU last Friday for co-funding of certain categories of product, and builds on the detailed field instructions already issued to Department staff. This has been a very difficult time for all of us, but I believe the systems are beginning to bed down and we have seen a sense of normality return to both the market and the processing sector.”
