UK Slaughter Statistics - March 2009

The number of clean pigs sent for slaughter during February was 669,000 compared to 816,000 in January (which was a five week month) and 693,000 in December.

16,000 sows and boars were sent for slaughter last month compared to 19,000 in January and 14,000 in December.

While the average carcase weights rose ever so slightly at 77.9 kg, the average slaughter weight for sows and boars dropped slighty at 143.6 kg in the month of February.

All in all, the UK's monthly home-killed production of meat was 54,000 tonnes in February compared to 66,000 tonnes in January, 55,000 tonnes in December and 60,000 tonnes in November.
