Pork Industry Critical of H1N1 Flu Coverage

AUSTRALIA - The pork industry has criticised the media's coverage of the H1N1 flu outbreak.

Scientists say there is no risk of catching the virus from eating pork products.

Australian Pork Limited spokesman Andrew Spencer says some media coverage of the issue could damage the industry's reputation, according to ABC.

But he says most consumers know there is no link between eating pork and the H1N1 flu.

"When the disease was first being discovered around the world, pork sales did drop around that time, probably up to around 15 per cent," he said.

"Since that period, sales have been improving, trending back towards normal.

"But we are still getting some anecdotal evidence that consumers are somewhat hesitant."
