News from European Pig Producers
EU - During the recent and very successful meeting of the European Pig Producers (EPP) in Austria, Dutch farmer Erik Thijssen was elected the new EPP-President. The next meeting will be in the Netherlands in May 2010.This year's congress of the association of European Pig Producers (EPP) was of great international interest. From 4 to 7 June, about 350 EPP-members and guests from 15 countries discussed new strategies in animal health, feeding and marketing.
Within the framework of the Congress, Dutch pig farmer and Chairman of the Dutch EPP branch, Erik Thijssen, becomes the new EPP-President. He follows up to Per Bach Laursen from Denmark, who leads the club since 2005. As new vice-president the members elected the German pig farmer and chairman of the German EPP branch, Franz Meyer zu Holte. He succeeds Birgit Scharlau.
During the EPP General assembly, the outgoing EPP President Per Bach Laursen and EPP Manager Sven Häuser looked back on a successful year. It is encouraging that the number of members continues to grow. The club, which 20 years ago on the initiative of leading European pig producers and the DLG (German Agricultural Society) in Herning (Denmark) was founded, has now 462 members from 24 countries.
The next Congress will be held from 26 to 30 May 2010 at Eindhoven in the Netherlands.
