EU Pig Prices: Price Level Steady for the Most Part
EU - For the most part, the European slaughter pig market proves to be well balanced again this week.
In Spain, many companies announced their intention to carry out slaughters on no more than four days this week in order to have the slaughter hooks be used to full capacity. The prices over there remained unchanged for the third time in a row. In Denmark, Danish Crown reduced the pig price by a corrected 2 cents. Quite contrary to what’s usual for this time of the year, the French price had to be reduced by a corrected 5 cents. It was stated as a reason Thursday last week that there was rumour of other European prices to go down, too. This, however, was not confirmed on Friday and Monday, respectively, apart from a few exemptions. In Sweden, the price even went up a little. This was even fuelled by the currency conversion. From the other European countries, unchanged payout prices were reported on.
Trend: Exporting live pigs towards Eastern Europe continues to be a good business. The quantities of pigs mature for slaughter not being excessive, the prices are expected to remain steady over the next few days.
