Print This Page Pork Goes Pink to Show Local Production
AUSTRALIA - Australian pork will be rebranded, making it easier for consumers to tell whether the pigs are raised here.High grain prices and cheap bacon and ham imports, worth $10 million a week, have hit the domestic industry hard.
Now Australian Pork Limited is fighting back, reports ABC, with a square pink label saying Australian Pork.
Chief executive Andrew Spencer says consumers should look for a square pink label saying Australian Pork.
"So what your listeners need to look for, if they're interested in supporting Australian pig producers is the Product of Australia label claim or the Australian Grown logo or the Australian Pork logo," he says.
"That means the pigs were raised in Australia and that's where the pork has come from."
