African Swine Fever Pressing on in Russia

RUSSIA - Russian veterinary authorities continue to report the persistence of African Swine Fever (ASF) in the country.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received Follow-up Report No. 2 on 6 October.

According to the report, there have been a total of sixteen cases of ASF in swine herds and one case in wild boars.

The origin of the outbreak is still under investigation.

Several measures have been applied to control the spread of the disease in the country. Some of these include:

  • Control of wildlife reservoirs
  • Quarantine
  • Movement control inside the country
  • Disinfection of infected premises/establishment(s)
  • Vaccination prohibited
  • No treatment of affected animals
