Print This Page Pig Slaughterhouse Closed by Salmonella
BELGIUM - A pig slaughterhouse halted production last week following the discovery of Salmonella Ohio contamination.The Belgian Food Safety Authority (AFSCA) has ordered a pig abattoir in Liege to halt all slaughtering activities after a significant number of carcasses were found to be contaminated by Salmonella Ohio.
According to Meat & Poultry, the Intercommunale des Abattoirs de Liege abattoir will not be allowed to resume operations until the contamination problem is solved, said AFSCA.
AFSCA also pointed out that Salmonella Ohio infections have been on the increase in the Belgian population.
