Print This Page New Case of ASF Reported in Russia
RUSSIA - A new case of African Swine Fever (ASF) has been detected in swine.
The Russian veterinary authorities sent Follow-up Report No.9 to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) on 16 November 2009.
According to the submitted report, the new outbreak occured in Stavropol Krai. The source of the outbreak is still under investigation. The new outbreak was confirmed on 11 October.
Two tests - direct immunofluorescence (DIF) and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests - were conducted to confirm the presence of the ASF virus in swine, and in both cases, the results proved to be positive.
The OIE and the veterinary experts have applied several measures to control the spread of the disease in the country.
