Germany Reports New Outbreak of H1N1 in Swine

The German veterinary authorities sent an immediate notification to the OIE on 10 December. The outbreak was first detected on 21 November, and confirmed on 3 December.

The outbreak occured in swine at a farm in Rheinland-Pfalz.

The origin of the flu outbreak has still not been determined. According to an EU agreement, animals in the establishment are isolated until 7 days after disappearance of clinical signs. Only then can they be moved for trade or slaughter.

Although the issue has been resolved, measures are still being applied to curb the spread of the disease in the country.
