Dr Smits will take responsibility for the management of PIC’s European Health Program, working closely with PIC’s international network of pig Veterinarians.
This appointment underscores PIC’s firm belief that health is a cornerstone of a successful pig industry and is a central part of PIC’s business. Dr Smits also adds further strength to PIC’s technical team in the area of reproductive technology.
Dr Smits completed his MSc at Wageningen University and went on to qualify as a veterinarian in 1993 from the University of Utrecht. He joins PIC after a successful career that has included time as a practical Pig Veterinarian plus positions as Technical Services Manager for Merial in the Benelux countries, Technical Director of AIM Worldwide and as a Veterinary Manager for TOPIGS both in the Netherlands and Internationally.
