Pig Genetics to Set New Boundaries in Production
NETHERLANDS - From January 2010, in addition to offering their existing range of tests and state-of-the-art technology, Dr Van Haeringen Laboratorium (VHL) will also offer Combination Packages for pig breeders, following installation of new SNP technology.Wim Van Haeringen of VHL says, “At VHL our mission is to utilise the most up-to-date technology to provide accurate, reproducible and valuable information to our customers in the pig market. The range of traits analysed by the new Combination Packages means it is a very useful DNA tool for the pig breeder markets.”
The Combination Packages for pigs analyses traits and diseases aimed at Value, Quality and Health. The profiles cover several economically important traits and can be based on samples from pigs at any age. The SNP technology will allow the efficient and timely management of an animals potential to perform and to transmit traits of economic importance and as such is the first step to a progressive and profitable future.
