A/H1N1 Flu Outbreak Reported in Finnish Swine

FINLAND - The Finnish veterinary authorities have reported an outbreak of A/H1N1 influenza.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received an immediate notification yesterday, 30 August. According to the report, the affected population consists of fattening pigs.

A total of 1500 cases were identified, and 1500 animals showed signs of susceptibility to the Pandemic A/H1N1 influenza virus (2009).

A polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test was conducted at the Finnish Food Safety Authority (EVIRA), Finland's national laboratory, and the presence of the virus was thereby confirmed. However, the situation has been resolved, and the country is now back to being H1N1-free.
