RUSSIA - Dr Nicolay Vlasov, CVO, Veterinary services, Ministry of Agriculture and Food from Moscow, Russia, has reported five new outbreaks of African swine fever in the country's south-west.

Follow-up report no. 73 was sent to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) yesterday, 5 December. The affected population consists of wild boars and pigs. The affected regions are Volgograd oblast (two outbreaks), Saratov oblast, Krasnodar Krai and Tver oblast.

In the case of wild boars, a total of 218 animals were found susceptible, out of which 11 cases were confirmed. Eleven deaths were recorded, and four of the affected animals were destroyed. In the case of swine, 263 animals showed signs of susceptibility, out of which 44 cases were confirmed. Twenty deaths were identified, and the remaining 243 pigs were destroyed.

The source of the outbreaks remain inconclusive, and investigations are currently ongoing.
