RUSSIA - The Russian veterinary authorities have reported another outbreak of African swine fever in Volgogradskaya Oblast.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received Follow-up Report No. 86 on 27 June 2012.

Out of 40 susceptible pigs, 18 cases and two deaths were reported.

Several measures have been applied to contain the situation. The measures include:

  • Stamping out
  • Quarantine
  • Movement control inside the country
  • Screening
  • Disinfection of infected premises/establishment(s)
  • No vaccination
  • No treatment of affected animals

The source of the outbreak remains inconclusive.
