Plans for Eradication of Swine Fever Progresses

ARGENTINA - Experts from international and national organizations discussed the progress of the Hemispheric Plan for Eradication of Classical Swine Fever (CSF) of the Americas during a meeting in the Colombian city of Pereira on 16 and 17 July attended by a representative of the National Health and Food Quality (SENASA).

The international day was made by the organizations of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), Pork Iberoamericana (OIPORC) and the International Regional Organization for Animal Health (OIRSA).

The conclave was attended by representatives of the veterinary services of Venezuela, Chile, Uruguay, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Colombia, Panama, Paraguay and Argentina as well as trade associations, leaders and entrepreneurs.

The meeting identified the progress of FAO's Continental Plan for the Eradication of CSF in the Americas, which analyzed critical points of operation in sub-regions of Central America, Andean, Caribbean and Southern Cone sought to improve coordination between public and private sectors and international animal health organizations for the progressive control and elimination of this disease, and restored partial removal goals to reach the eradication goal in the mainland by 2020.
