Russia Tightens Controls on US Pork Exports

04 September 2012

RUSSIA - After finding listeria and antibiotics in a shipment of pork from the US, Russia has introduced a number of intense laboratory controls.

Both Tyson Fresh Meats and Triumph Foods will have temporary restriction imposed on them, according to Rosselkhoznadzor.

Listeria was found in a shipment of frozen boneless pork from Tyson Fresh Meats, and chlortetracycline and tetracycline antibiotics in pork from Triumph Foods.

"Taking into account that the violations have a primary character, Rosselkhoznadzor found it necessary to introduce a regime of intensive laboratory testing from the supply of US meat production," said Deputy Head of Rosselkhoznador.
