New Classical Swine Fever Outbreak in Guatemala

12 September 2012

GUATEMALA - A new outbreak of classical swine fever has been reported to the OIE by Dr Miguel Angel Azañón Robles, Director de Salud Animal, Area Zoosanitaria.

The outbreak occurred on a farm in the Village of Sajcavilla , San Juan Sacatepequez, Guatemala.

Of the 10 pigs susceptible, the outbreak led to three cases which resulted in three deaths and seven pigs to be destroyed.

The farm was a small backyard operation without biosecurity measures.

The source of the outbreak is thought to be due to the introduction of new live animals.
