The study was performed on 87 pig farms, confirmed Dr Jose Ines Amador, coordinator of Classical Swine Fever, MAGFOR.

Sampling results will reaffirm the health status enjoyed by Nicaragua since May 2011, the date on which it was officially declared a country free of classical swine fever.

The blood samples of pigs will confirm that the virus is not circulating in pig populations in the country.

According to official data, the country has 1,063,045 pigs and 740,000 samples were taken.

Dr Amador said that to date, 80 per cent of facilities have tested negative for the disease.
