Cost of Production for Pigs and Broilers Down in March

11 April 2013

BRAZIL - According to Embrapa, the production costs of broilers and pigs fell 4.91 per cent and 4.97 per cent respectively in March.

The yearly cost of production of broilers has dropped 16.21 per cent, the drop being mainly driven by lower spending on poultry feed (-17.53 per cent) in 2013.

The cost of pig production has dropped down to 14.06 per cent during January to March 2013. This also reflects the decrease in spending on food (-15.28 per cent).

On average, nutrition constitutes 70 per cent of the cost of production for broilers, and 75 per cent for pig production.
