The farmers represented by the union FNSEA said they were exasperated by the lack of movement on prices which had been promised a month ago.

They said they had been promised an upgrade but nothing had happened apart from an announcement in the business press by the retail chain owner Michel-Edouard Leclerc to say that an upgrade would move away from the indexation of tariffs on commodity prices.

The FNSEA said farmers had invested heavily in recent years to meet welfare requirements with An expectation of higher prices, but these expectations have not been met despite the margins being seen on the meat shelf.

The farmers said that with increasing production costs and lower sale prices the losses for producers are growing.

They said the industry mediator must immediately raise producer prices.

They also called for clear labelling of French produced pork so that consumers could differentiate it for cheaper imports.

The FNSEA said the campaign for fairer prices is set to continue.
