Pig Industry Award on Offer

05 July 2013

British Pig Executive

UK - There is still plenty of time to nominate somebody to receive the David Black Award - the most prestigious award the pig industry has to offer.

Each year the David Black award is given to somebody who has made a valuable and sustained contribution to the pig industry.

It is presented at an industry breakfast held in the House of Lords each November attended by representatives of the industry, MPs, Peers and ministers.

The judging is carried out by an independent panel chaired by BPEX Director Mick Sloyan who said: "Each year the judges face a very difficult task because there are so many deserving people nominated for the award.

"It makes you realise what a wealth of talent there is in the industry and how dedicated they all are."

The award can go to anybody who has made an important contribution to the industry whether as a producer, processor, academic, retailer or journalist.

Former winner, NPA webmaster Digby Scott said: "The David Black Award is the pig industry's most important award.

"It demonstrates to the rest of the world, including others in the pig meat supply chain, ministers, peers, MPs and regulators what we value most in this sector and what our best people are capable of achieving on behalf of the industry."

Nominations close on 30 August and the entry form is available on the BPEX website by clicking here.

BPEX is the organisation for pig levy payers in England and is a division of the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB).
