Belarus Reports Further ASF Outbreak

BELARUS - Belarus's veterinary authorities have reported another outbreak of African swine fever at a farm in Vitebsk.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received follow-up report no. 1, stating that the causal agent has been found to be the ASF virus.

A total of 20,611 pigs were found to be susceptible to the disease, out of which 26 cases were reported. A total of 21 deaths were recorded while 1089 animals had to be destroyed.

Some of the measures applied include control of wildlife reservoirs, stamping out, quarantine, movement control inside the country, screening and disinfection of infected premises/establishment(s) in order to contain the situation. 

The source of the outbreak(s) remains inconclusive.
