Pigs Slaughtered after Trichinosis Confirmed04 September 2013
ARGENTINA - Around 73 pigs have been slaughtered after a case of trichinosis was confirmed.
The National Health Service and Food Quality (Senasa) investigated a property located in the locality of Saavedra after detecting that one of the animals was ill with trichinosis.
Senasa then ordered the slaughtering in order to protect the health of consumers.
Farmers should not feed pigs with meat from industry waste, household waste or meat which is raw.
For questions or suspicions of trichinosis, contact the Animal Health Coordination Regional Center South to phone Buenos Aires 0223-480-2226 or contact any of the offices of the Service.
