Brazil Looking to Expand Pork Exports to Argentina

27 September 2013

BRAZIL - Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, Antonio Andrade, is aiming to expand pork exports to Argentina.

Last year, Brazil and Argentina signed an agreement, establishing an import quota of three tons per month of Brazilian products. However, Mr Andrade commented on the low value of exports.

In response, Argentine agricultural minister Norberto Yauhar pledged to personally address the matter so Brazil may expand its pig exports to the country.

Despite having expanded domestic production of pigs this year, pork demand in Argentina is high and therefore, needs to supplement pig supply with imports.

According to Mr Yauhar, the lack of pig supplies in Argentina has led to an understanding between the two countries.
