Nigerian Agency Sensitises Farmers on Pig Value Chain

27 September 2013

NIGERIA - The Regional Director, North/West, Agricultural Transformation Agenda (ATA) Dr Leo Nyam said that his office is sensitising Kaduna farmers on pig value chain because Kaduna State has the largest pig market in West Africa.

According to Daily Trust, ATA, which is an office under the Federal Ministry of Agriculture was established to look into problems associated with farming in the country with a mandate of improving agricultural production.

In an interview with our correspondent, Mr Nyam said: “We want more people to go into pig production; we want more pigs to be available for consumption that is why we are also looking into any problem associated with pig production.

"Pork is not a popular commodity in the North, but surprisingly over the years, apart from in the southern part of Kaduna State, very little have been heard about pigs."
