Dutch Weaner Exports Increase28 October 2013
NETHERLANDS - Live pigs exports from the Netherlands are up seven per cent. But after a sharp decline in 2012, Dutch exports of fresh and frozen pig meat are reported down again, by around eight per cent, in the first half of this year.
The drop was most pronounced in volume to the United Kingdom, which was down 18 per cent. Deliveries to the top export destination, Italy, were down by 4.4 per cent, while those to Germany — the Netherland's second most import market — were 12 per cent lower.
Pigmeat exports to non-European Union countries fell five per cent, mainly as result of lower volumes destined for South Korea, Singapore and Australia. Exports to Hong Kong and Russia increased.
Live pig exports from the Netherlands were up seven per cent, which contributed to a fall in total pigmeat production. Most of the trade was in weaners to Germany.
Italy took almost 25 per cents more live pigs over the period than in 2012. There was a sharp increase in live exports to Spain.
