Remember Training on Emergency Pig Euthanasia

11 April 2014

British Pig Executive

UK - Producers have until the end of the month to get themselves signed off as competent to carry out euthanasia on pigs.

The training can be carried out by a vet or any suitably trained and experienced person and staff must be signed off as competent by a vet. For those who wish, external courses are still available but they are not compulsory.

These changes came about in April last year and producers were given 12 months April 2014) to ensure that their stockmen have been formally trained and assessed as competent to carry out euthanasia.

Red Tractor Appendix AH 7.2 covers the requirements extensively and it can be access by clicking here.
