US Begins to Report Swine Delta Corona Virus Cases18 April 2014
US - The National Animal Health Laboratory Network (NAHLN) began collating testing data on swine delta corona virus (SDCv) for the week of 30 March 2014. SDCv is a similar type of virus to the one that causes Porcine Epidemic Diarrhoea (PED) and has similar but milder symptoms.
For the latest weekly report - for the week of 12 April in a report dated 16 April from the American Association of Swine Veterinarians (AASV) - 25 swine accessions have tested positive for the SDCv, bringing the cumulative total to 50.
A total of 319 accessions have been tested, 215 in the most recent week reported, so the percentage foud positve is 13 per cent so far, 12 per cent in the last week.
Ten states have so far reported SDCv-positive accessions (farms).
With the number of positive results in brackets, affected states are: Iowa, 7; Illinois, 6; Indiana, 7; Michigan, 6; Minnesota, 13; Montana, 1; Ohio, 6; Pennsylvania, 1; South Dakota, 1; Texas, 1 and unknown, 1.
