Mizoram is facing an acute shortage of pork, the staple diet of the Mizos, according to The Hindu.

The government is making efforts to increase its production following death of large number of pigs due to Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS).

The Animal Husbandry and Veterinary department will give 50 per cent subsidy to those who are rearing swine for breeding and utmost care would be given to ensure that such swine are free from disease to increase pork production, Veterinary Department Director, L.B. Sailo said last week.
