LATVIA - Four new outbreaks of African swine fever (ASF) have been detected in pigs in the south east of the country.

The veterinary authority sent Follow Up Report No.3 to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

On 2 July 2014, a backyard holding owner notified to the veterinarian about one ill fattening pig. Blood samples were taken and sent to the laboratory. On 3 July, the laboratory confirmed ASF in domestic pig. Protection and surveillance zones are established for ASF and all measures according the Directive 2002/60/EC are in place. Backyard holding is located very close to the Belarus border.

There were also three further cases of ASF detected in wild boar in the Indras and Piedrujas parishes, Kraslavas county, and Kepovas parish, Dagdas county.
